Obituary
Robert Francis Quintin, age 80 of St. Charles. Son of the late Alden F. Quintin and Margaret M. Quintin, nee Condon; beloved brother of Katherine A. (the late Robert) Fordonski, Margaret Q. (Robert) Holdsworth, John M. (Julie Bertolino) Quintin, Eileen Q. (Steven) Hamburg and the late Mary Patricia Quintin; uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Bob was born in Missoula Montana during WWII when his father was on active duty in Alaska and his mother was living with her parents in nearby De Smet. Bob's grandfather was a Northern Pacific RR switchman and the family lived in a small home near the rail line.
After the war, Bob's father continued a career with the Air Force so the family moved regularly. Bob lived in North Carolina, Washington DC, Newfoundland, Hampton VA, Ramstein, Germany, Madison WI, and Belleville IL.
Bob graduated from Monona Grove HS near Madison and attended Marquette University for 1 year. He completed an additional year of college credits in St. Louis.
Bob joined the Air Force Reserves in Sep. 1964 and was honorably discharged in June 1970 with the rank of A3C.
Bob was married to Kathy Hargreaves in 1967; they divorced in 1978.
Bob worked for a number of years as a lab technician for agricultural/chemical companies in St. Louis. He moved to the Fox River Valley IL around 1984 and worked as a quality control tech for a ball bearing manufacturer.
Bob was always active in sports. Through his school years Bob dreamed of being a professional baseball player and maintained a lifelong passion for the game. He had an amazing memory for baseball stats and joined softball leagues wherever he lived.
While in Aurora, Bob completed the 21 mile Mid America Canoe Race in 1994 with his sisters & bro-in law. The race was unusually arduous that year with very low water levels and a strong head wind requiring extra portages and walking the canoes on sand bars. The undaunted family teams finished in 6.5 hours.
He eventually moved to St. Charles IL and has lived at Carroll Tower since about 2007. Bob connected with a bridge group in St. Charles, joined bridge matches online and attended many tournaments in the Midwest. He joined the American Contract Bridge League in the early 2000s and achieved the rank of Life Master in 2011. He was passionate about bridge and taught several beginning students who continue to play and credit his patience and skill at clarifying the rules of bridge play. Bob finally accumulated 1000 points to achieve the rank of Silver Life Master around 2021.
Bob will be dearly missed by his neighbors, bridge partners and many family members from IL, MO, CT, CA, KS & MT.
