Obituary

Tomeczko, Michael Gerald, fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Beloved husband to Patricia H. Tomeczko (nee Martz) for 58 years; dearest father of Kathryn (Subash) Alias and the late Michael J. Tomeczko; dear son of the late Michael P. and Eleanor Tomeczko; dear brother of Mel (Chris) Tomeczko of Riverside, IL and Barbara Gacki of Honolulu, HI; our dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Mike had a great sense of humor. He and his brother provided many hours of laughter and craziness! The next generation joined in and has carried on the tradition. The Christmas Eve celebrations have evolved into songs written by the various families that are comical and yet chronicle the history of the family. Then there is the once a year, impromptu, unrehearsed family band that performs every Christmas carol to a polka beat. Any musician is invited to join at their own risk! Mike’s mother brought wrapped white elephant gifts for a grab bag. It’s amazing what we unwrapped! The closeness and love of the Tomeczko family has sustained us all through happy and sad times. Although we will miss Mike, his spirit will always be remembered.

Mike was an attorney in Chicago and advocate for senior citizens during his forty-year career. He also was the director of several senior clubs sponsored by banks in the city. These clubs provided information about services available to seniors, including Social Security, nutrition, health, and city and state programs.

What Mike liked best was the entertainment for the enrichment of their social lives. He organized many trips, dances and parties, and of course, Bingo. He loved to entertain by singing, playing his accordion, and dancing with the ladies. He had as much fun as those he served. Many of the seniors became personal friends of both Mike and Pat.

His educational background was Gordon Tech HS, Chicago, St. Ambrose College, Davenport Iowa, and Chicago Kent College of Law, Chicago. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree, the Chicago Bar Association, Delta Sigma Pi, Theta Omicron chapter, Business Fraternity at St. Ambrose University, and a parishioner of Our Lady of the Pillar Church for the last ten years.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Kriegshauser West Mortuary, 9450 Olive Blvd., Olivette, MO 63132. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at Our Lady of the Pillar Church, 401 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131 at 10:00 A.M.

Interment St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles, IL., Thursday, August 22, 2024. Anyone wishing to attend is asked to meet at the cemetery entrance at 11:30 A.M.
