Obituary

Dr. Lucy Delia Perez Harck, born on September 30, 1952, in Caguas, Puerto Rico, was sent to her eternal home on March 27, 2025, in LaGrange, Illinois.  She was the beloved daughter of the late Carmelo Rios and Rosa Perez Figueroa.

Lucy was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.  Her journey on earth was one marked by love, compassion, and her unwavering faith in God. Her unexpected passing has left a void in the hearts of her entire family, friends, co-workers and many more whose lives she touched. We ask that you always remember her for the life she lived and the profound impact she had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 33 years, Richard Harck Sr. and her loving children: Richard Jr., David, Marshall, Lucy, and Sara.  Some of her greatest joys came from spending time and making memories with her five children.  Lucy comes from a large family and had always wanted a big family herself.  The Lord provided her with this blessing. They were her greatest accomplishment and joy in life.  Lucy was blessed to have a total of 10 siblings: Victor (Miriam), Miguel (Maria), Carmelo (Noraida), Florentino (special sister-in-law, Mirna Gil), Maria Dolores (Roger), Wilberto, Antonio, Sylvia, Carmen, and Willie.  She also leaves behind a host of cousins, nephews, and nieces who adored her dearly.  Her nephews and nieces all recall many beautiful memories of spending time with their Titi Lucy.  She was preceded in death by her father Carmelo, her mother Rosa, her brothers Victor and Wilberto, and her sister-in-law Maria.

Lucy was very passionate about education.  Although she started her career as a teacher, after receiving her doctorate degree, she became a clinical psychologist.  She spent 20 years working for the University of Illinois, eventually retiring in May 2023.  Throughout this period, she helped many underserved children within the juvenile justice system in hopes of bettering their lives.  In her earlier years of life, Lucy enjoyed drawing, being a seamstress, and even cutting hair.  After moving to LaGrange, she became a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.  She was deeply involved in multiple areas of the church including prayer teams and assisted weekly in taking Holy communion to the sick.  She had a deep- rooted faith in Jesus.  These acts of kindness and love have left a lasting impact on them, and she will be greatly missed by her entire church family.

Although Lucy’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us.  May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth her legacy of love and compassion in all that we do.  As you continue to worship Jesus up there, dear Lucy, your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts here on earth.

Visitation Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at St. Francis Xavier Church, Corner of Spring & Ogden, LaGrange, IL  60525.  Mass is at 10:30 A.M.

Interment Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Hillside.
