Obituary
Dean L. Wittenberg, age 69, of Brookfield, IL passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017. He was born in Chicago, IL to the late William C. and Marilyn Wittenberg. Dean is survived by his beloved wife Kathleen; his children Amy (Christopher) Moravec and Michael (Angela) Wittenberg; his grandchildren Henry and Milo Wittenberg and Charlotte and Ellenore Moravec; brother William (Geri) Wittenberg; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Dean was an educator, storyteller, history aficionado and model train enthusiast.
He spent the majority of his career working for Chicago Public Schools where he was a librarian and history teacher at Dunbar Vocational High School. Dean was a faithful member of St. Louise de Marillac Parish where he was actively involved with the Men’s Club. He acted on the board of the Brookfield library for several years. He coached Brookfield National Little League and also served as a Scout leader for Troop 111. Ever the handyman, he enjoyed numerous annual trips to Clarksdale, MS doing volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity.
His heart belonged to his grandchildren who he loved to make laugh and who always made him laugh in return.
Visitation will be from 4:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Hitzeman Funeral Home, 9445 31st St, Brookfield. There will be a Funeral Mass at 10:00a.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Church, 1144 Harrison Ave, La Grange Park, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Misericordia, 6300 N Ridge, Chicago IL 60611. Please indicate MFA3266B on the memo line if donating via check.
