Condolences

Dear Bernie and Liz, Your dad and I have been friends since early childhood, as our parents were both from Austria and were friends. We shared many fun times through grade school and high school. We were both in the Navy and then stood up for each other’s weddings. For many years we enjoyed playing pinochle. Dorothy and I travelled to China with Lillian and Bernie and shared many great times together. I am so sorry that I missed the funeral service for your dad and want to offer my sincere condolences. Your dad was a great person and my very good friend. Fred Brandstatter

Dear Bernie and Liz, I have many delightful memories of both your parents. I don't know where to start. German Club Oktoberfests at Nazareth; Neighbors night out with the group from Spring Ave.; Mass at SFX with my daughter Anne; and catching sight of him at BW when my Kiwanis club met there. But the last long visit we had was right after my mom had passed and he gave me a Hummel from your mom's collection. Lillian had given it to my parents when they moved into La Grange Park. My mom had given it back when the moved because she knew it came from her collection. Your dad gave it back to me.I was so touched by the gesture. It gave me something to remember both your mom and my mom. I will treasure it and pass it on to my little girls. You have both been wonderful children and successful adults in your own right. I know that Lillian and Bernie are together again and so proud of both of you and your families. I am living out of state now and I am very sorry not to have a chance to say a last good-bye at the beautiful chapel made more so with the lovely new altar. Take care of each other in the next few months. Maureen Russell

Uncle Bernie always had something good to say. He was one of the nicest men I have ever met. I remember how he and my dad would say how lucky they were to be not just friends but relatives. His strong faith helped me with my own faith journey. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with you Bernie and Liz and your families.

Dear Liz and Bernie, We are very sorry to hear about your Dad. He brought real joy to my parents while they were together at Bethlehem Woods, particularly when he rode his red scooter around. He was always kind to me when I was visiting. Before that- well there are a lifetime of memories. We hope that those memories will sustain you as you say goodbye. Best, Beth and Eric

Bernie, Gerald and I are thinking of you, Karan and the girls at this sad time. We have only known a little of you after we met in China and through our email correspondence. In that time though we have learned of your deep love and respect for your father. He will always be with you Betty and Gerald Appleton
