Obituary

Richard Sandeen, Jr., beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on November 7, 2024 at the age of 62. Born on January 2, 1962, in West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois, to Richard Sr. (deceased) and Margaret Sandeen, Richard brought joy and love to all who knew him. Richard graduated from Proviso East High School in 1980 and went on to build a successful 34-year career at Thyssen Krupp Elevator (formerly Dover Elevator) where he worked as an elevator mechanic until his retirement. He accepted Christ at an early age, and he attended church at St. Michael Lutheran Church in LaGrange Park, IL. Richard and former spouse, Vicki, had 2 children Richard, III and Myles, but he also raised his stepchildren Came'ra and Martel as his own. Richard enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, often sharing the excitement and camaraderie of game days with those close to him. His warmth, sense of humor, and unwavering kindness left an indelible mark on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. Richard is survived by his mother, Margaret Sandeen, his children Richard, III (Miranda; Tacoma, Washington), Myles (Broadview, IL), Martel (Maricopa, AZ), and Came'ra (Maricopa, AZ), whom he was a devoted father to and was a proud grandfather to 1 granddaughter, Aniya Ajayi. He was also a caring and supportive brother to Linda (Paul) Kubick (Crystal Lake, IL), Diane (James) Drugas (Lombard, IL), and Sally Mickelson (Chicago, IL), fostering bonds that lasted a lifetime. He shared a special bond with his cousins the Iversen's. More like siblings than cousins. He was an awesome uncle to a host of nieces and nephews. As well as great nieces and nephews, family and friends.

A service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held at 2000 St Regis Drive, Lombard IL on November 14th from 5pm-9pm. The family requests that if you have any Chicago Cubs or Bears apparel that you wear it.

His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy of love and compassion will never be forgotten.

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.
